Statement/Biography
My art education began early. I am a daughter of a very artistic mother and a military man. I spent the first half of my life moving often, travelling this country and Europe. While growing up I had the opportunity to visit many museums, churches and castles of Europe and the United States. Art History was one of my favorite subjects in college. As an artist, I have chosen the camera as my primary tool for self- expression. I use varying formats, 35mm single lens reflex, medium format cameras, both color and black and white film, and digital cameras. In my photographic art I capture brief, split-second, moments when light transforms and elevates the ordinary to something extraordinary. My work ranges from showing my love for animals, the inherent beauty and spirit of the horse, local landscapes with atmospheric perspective, to more abstract pieces defining a part as the whole. Often, my work is illustrative, reflective and romantic. Ultimately, my work is an expression of myself. With varying use of light I convey different moods and my reverence for Nature, the land where I live, and my love for animals. |
